Not knowing so much the Atlantic coast of France, we decided to discover this side west of France that so many people love to spend the summer holidays. And we put the bags in Arcachon to discover the famous Arcachon Basin and one of its must-see places: The Dune of Pilat.
The luck was with us because a bright sun was invited for this day. We then decided to see the sunset from the top of the dune on the Atlantic Ocean.
Once the car on the parking lot, we put on the flip-flops and left for a new adventure.
As we get closer, we quickly discover that the sand and the dune are encroaching more and more on the forest. We left the shoes to go barefoot.
And immediately it was necessary to climb on the dune whose side slope is up to 30%, or you can use a staircase of 160 steps.
Once the rise of the dune is over, nature offers us once again a magnificent spectacle.
What a beauty.
But what a beauty.
From the top of the dune you understand the immensity of the place. About three kilometers long and six hundred meters wide.
Breathtaking panoramas:
• In the north, the basin, Arcachon, Cap-Ferret, Teste de Buch.
• To the east, the forest of Landes de Gascogne
• To the south, you can admire the dune along its entire length.
• And to the west you will have before you the immensity of the Atlantic Ocean.
We waited for the sunset. The wait was really worth it: beautiful (see photo).
In conclusion, if you have the opportunity, make the detour to discover the Dune of Pilat. It's both impressive and unique in France
