le Puy de Dôme

Dominating Clermont-Ferrand, the plain of the Limagne, the Chaine du Sancy, and the Chain of the Volcanoes of Auvergne (including that of a pub for bottled water), the Puy de Dôme is the central summit of the whole region Auvergne region. It culminates at 1465 meters and it is possible to see it several tens of kilometers.
Once you arrive at the foot of the Puy de Dôme, if you wish to reach the summit, two choices are available to you. Either climb to the top on foot by hiking trails, it will take you 1H30 of walk. Second way to climb Puy de Dome, a cog railway with which you will reach the summit in 20 minutes. Return 12.50 euros round trip. You can also choose to do just one go or just a return and the rest of the way on foot. Consult the schedules before your visit because they are different according to the seasons.
Once at the top, you will discover a well-appointed space:
A path around the puy.
An archaeological site, the Temple of Mercury and a free museum.
A restaurant and a cafeteria.
In the summer you can also enjoy the animals.
The Puy de Dôme is also a spot for paragliders. You have the possibility of a paragliding flight.
Le Puy de Dôme offers a 360 ° view of the whole Auvergne. Incredible viewpoints on all volcanoes.
Atypical point of the Puy de Dome, is the antenna that it has on its summit. We love or do not like, in any case it is impressive.
The Puy de Dôme is classified Grand Site de France.

We loved this tour. Upon our arrival, there is ample parking for the car. Then a train to get us to the top. This one is very well arranged and offers a splendid moment of relaxation to 1465 meters of altitude. The price of the train is a bit high in our eyes. We are just waiting to have a snowy landscape to return on the Puy de Dôme.
